Kunti is a legendary drama serial in the history of Doordarshan. It is the largest viewed channel in India, and it has improved its status by broadcasting Kunti in the prime time slot. The serial was produced by Sri Adhikari Brothers Private Limited. Gautam Adhikari, the son of the director of the production house, was the man in action behind the camera and has directed the show. The show was a part of the revamp on Doordarshan channel which was a turning point in its then situation. The show was first premiered on television in the year 2002.
The story of the series revolves around an ambitious girl named Kunti. She loves dancing and has a keen interest in learning music, but his father disapproves her interests and forces her to leave the dance and music classes. Frustrated by this, she gets very disturbed and could not find peace in any other work. However, she falls in love with a boy and gets something lovable in her life. But later, the boy also dumps her and runs away. Her life was like a damsel in distress. She has no place to go, and her family kicks her out of their house. She also comes to know that she is pregnant with the boy's child and decides to give birth to the baby instead of having an abortion. She also gets shifted in a Mahila Ashram to find shelter there. She is happy with her child, but later that also is taken away from her. The committee decides to take the child to childcare center as Kunti is not married and it is against the Indian culture to have a child before marriage.
Later, the caretaker of the ashram dies, and the ashram needed a woman to step up and take charge of it. Kunti decides to be a woman and takes the charge of the ashram. Also, when getting in power, she decides to at least fight for her child to get him back. The story of the show goes on the same pitch creating many twists and turns to make it interesting and entertaining. The show was again broadcasted on DD Metro in the year 2005 after its success on Doordarshan.
