Shanti TV Serial was launched in 1994 and telecasted from Monday-Friday at 1pm, afternoon on Doordarshan DD National (DD1).
In mid 90's, When a Voice over announced - "United Televison...Prastut karta hai....Shanti", it became phenomenal and created history.
Shanti – Ek Aurat ki Kahani is a first afternoon soap opera on Indian Television. The show was such a success that it was relaunched on Star Plus too. The show was one of India’s first full-fledged drama serial. It was directed by Adi Pocha and produced by UTV Software Communications. The show very popular during its times and still remembered as a classic. It tells the story of Shanti, a journalist, and her journey and fight for truth. It is a story of love, friendship, deceit, betrayal, enemity and truth all put together.
Shanti, the titular role essayed by Mandira Bedi, is a journalist on the path of truth. She wants to right a story, more like a biography on Bollywood’s biggest production house owned by Kamesh Mahadevan played by Yatin Karyekar and Raj G. J. Singh played by Amar Talwar who live together in the Shanti Mansion.
Shanti was the launch pad for many actors who went on to become successful celebrities. Mandira Bedi was one of them. She was appreciated for her work and perfect portrayal of the strong career-oriented woman Shanti and went on to become an inspiration to many. Her this perfomance has till date been marked as her best performance.
The show was intially launched by Doordarshan in the afternoon slot to appeal to the house-wives and other stay- at- home audience. It became very successful and went on to complete a massive 804 episodes. Such was the success, that years later Star plus bought the rights for the show and relaunched it as a Prime time show.
