Namak Haraam TV Serial aired on March 2009 on Indian channel Real TV, Monday to Thursday 9PM. Panama Productions created the serial and is still on the air. It is a tale of Swathi, a district collector who gets married to a business tycoon Karan. Narayani Shastri portrays the character of Swati Sehgal and Sachin Tyagi portrays the character of Karan Sehgal. After marriage, couple develops a different attitude in their personal life and gives preference to individual ideas and lifestyle. This creates a split in their marriage life.
The seed of poison between their happy married lives is shown when Swati plans to take up a housing project in the village as a district collector. Meanwhile, Karan’s father, Indrajeet Sehgal (played by Shishir Sharma) asks Karan to utilize the power of Swathi as she is a bureaucrat. Indrajeet wants to take the housing plot for expansion of their business. Karan agrees to persuade Swathi to back out the project for their business profits. But Swathi is adamant, and she does not want to back out from the housing project and seeks to help the poor villagers. She wants to fight for the right of the villagers. Swathi is hurt by her husband’s attitude when she comes to know that she has been manipulated by her husband whom she had trusted a lot.
Thus, a simple five-year marriage develops a difference of opinion between a husband and wife. What happens ultimately is the serial has to say? Prithvi Zutshi and Smita Hai play the role of Swathi's father and mother respectively. Gayatri Sehgal played Karan's mother role. Kiswar Merchant played Karan's sister role. Other casts include Aman Verma and Bikramjeet Kanwarpa.
