Beti Ka Farz is the story about the prejudices surrounding a married woman in India. Avantika is married to a guy named Siddarth. Siddarth’s mother is an orthodox person, who has set certain rules and regulations for Avantika. Avantika abides by her mother-in-law’s rules and is commended for it. Siddarth is also relieved that his house doesn’t have to witness the banter between his mother and wife. Things go by smoothly until both of Avantika’s parents fall sick, and the responsibility of taking care of them falls on her. Avantika jumps to her parents’ aid without any reluctance. Problems arise in her house when she has to juggle her duties as a daughter and a daughter-in-law. Siddarth’s mother constantly criticizes Avantika for abandoning her duties to her husband.
Despite all these remarks, Avantika doesn’t give up on her parents. By the end of the serial, the mother-in-law realizes her iniquity towards Avantika and her parents and asks forgiveness for her actions. This daily soap attracted many female viewers and taught a lot of unjust mothers-in-law to respect all members of their families equally.
