This Pachpan Khambe Lal Deewarein is the epic piece of Hindi TV serials which was made to telecast on Doordarshan. The title of the serial refers to fifty-five pillars, and red walls. The serial is an adaptation of a book written by Usha Priyamvada. It is a tale of a sacrifice of a woman for her family. She does not get married to someone she wishes. The teleserial is a heart-piercing tale of a Sushma, played by Meeta Vashisht, a teacher in a college. She is single, lives independently and is the sole breadwinner of her family. She falls in love with a much younger man, Neel, played by Aman Verma, but she cannot marry him because of her family situation. The reason is that she is the only breadwinner in the family. Despite her sacrifice, she is never seen as helpless and pathetic.
Everybody associated with her in her practical life is willing to take and take only from her, neither willing to give her anything, nor allowing her to get anything on her own. Her blood relatives are sticking to her like parasites not allowing her to live alone or even get married. Although the serial is adapted from a novel yet, the central theme looks like a film ‘Tapasya’ played by Rakhee Gulzar, who sacrificed for her family members remaining alone in her life. The main protagonist, in this serial, is Sushma. She is the first daughter of an ordinary family. Sushma, with her talent and education, can earn and support her family, only to find that her family members have taken her sacrifice. Her younger sisters get married through the money being earned by her, but nobody (including the mother) cares about her wedding, her emotions and her womanly need to have her own house, husband, and children.
A boy, younger than her named Neel, enters into her life, and she falls in love with him. The heroine Sushma only knows to sacrifice her own joys for the sake of others and believes that she is destined to live with all her loneliness throughout her life. Actor Aman Verma made his debut in the world of acting through this serial. The serial is directed by P.K. Mohanty and was broadcast in 1993 on Doordarshan. Noted stage actress Mita Vashisht played the lead role of Sushma in this serial.
