Dastoor TV Serial is an Indian drama that aired in 1997-98. It ran on DD National which is a state-run television channel. Dastoor has Gurbir Singh Grewal as the director. He is also the man behind other renowned classics like Neem ka Ped. Dr. F.S. Shirani is the writer of the series. The serial marks the acting debut of Sakshi Tanwar, a popular television actress.
She went on to play other renowned characters in serials like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. Sakshi Tanwar is a renowned actress in the Indian film and television circuit. While she started her acting career with Dastoor, her television career had already started. She had served as an anchor on Doordarshan. She was also anchoring a show called Albela Sur Mela. The show was about Hindi film songs and was broadcasted in 1998. Her fortunes truly took a turn for the better in the year 2000. It was then that she agreed to take up the lead role in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. Ekta Kapoor approached her on behalf of Balaji Telefilms multiple times prior to that. But Sakshi had kept on refusing till one day she said yes. The show ran on top of the charts from 2000 till 2008.
It was responsible for the turnaround of fortunes of many people. That included her, Ekta Kapoor, and of course Star Plus, the channel on which the show aired. Sakshi portrayed the role of Parvati Agarwal who was the protagonist of the show. The story revolved around her household and the challenges she and her family faced. It was a touching tale of togetherness and family bonding, of hardships and tribulations. But no matter how bad things became, Parvati always found a way to set things right once again. The show propelled Sakshi to stardom overnight.
She became synonymous with the character of Parvati who was now a household name. After Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii ended, she took up the role of Priya. She was the protagonist of Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. This show too was a creation of Balaji Telefilms and premiered across India in May 2011. The show ended in July 2014 after a successful stint. It received wonderful audience reviews. Sakshi graduated from Lady Shri Ram College before stepping into the world of television.
