Zamana Badal Gaya is an Indian drama serial which is aired on Doordarshan DD Metro in 1995. It was directed by Manoj Lalwani & Ravi Oza in 1995. This show is a pure entertainment comedy serial which was produced by Bharati Achrekar along with the directors of the serial. Madhu Entertainments presents this show. Tiku Talsania, who had cast many leading roles in some of the shows (including Uttaran) and movies, was the one who stars as Kanhaiya Lal Mathur in this serial. The infamous childhood artist Urvashi Dholakia or should I say Komolika Basu also cast in this serial.

Aruna Irani who had won the lifetime achievement award in 2012 and had starred as supporting actress in both Bollywood movies and serial was the one who cast as Veena Mathur. Each and every episode is like a separate story without breaking the continuation. They will make you laugh and relax at the same time to think. Every controversial topic has been explained here with a touch of humour. This is considered as the best evergreen show in the 90s. This serial depicts the double standard life of the people. No, this show does not contain extraordinary plots or vengeance it is purely for fun and enjoyment.

Though this serial was aired on DD-Metro first, they were re- telecasted on Sony lately. This serial moves around Mr.Mathur along with his wife Veena, Anju their only daughter and Bobby & Ajay their sons and his mother. Though they are filmed comically, they still express the value of family. They say that family should come first before anything. One such example for this is, in an episode where Urvashi who works out really well to participate in a beauty contest but on a grand day have to take the grandmother to the hospital.

This is the story that explains the generation gap and the standard of the life. Everyone wants some change to take place, but they are not ready to accept when it happens in their home. Manoj Lalwani, the director, portrays about this in a comical way. With their body language and face expressions, they made us laugh out loud. Tiku Talsania done a great job as Mathur and Aruna Irani have depicted the homemaker in front of our eyes. This serial is a hit and is telecasted in both Hindi and Tamil language. This show is now available on DVDs too.

Tiku Talsania plays the role of Mr. Mathur. He works in an office. He creates hilarious scenes in their family but, at the time, is also a strict father who is worried about his daughter. Aruna Irani plays the role of Veena Mathur. She is the wife of Mr. Mathur and has three children: two sons- Ajay and Bobby and one daughter - Anju. She is a caring wife and an understanding mother. Urvashi Dholakia plays the role of Anju. She is the daughter of Veena and Mathur. She is a modern girl who wants to live in her way.


Zamana Badal Gaya is a Hindi serial broadcast on the Doordarshan channel. In this serial, a progressive family is shown. This family consists of husband and wife and their three kids, a daughter named Anju, Ajay their son, and Bobby, their third son, the youngest. Veera Mathur works as a journalist and has written a highly inspiring article in the newspaper about a woman’s rights and their equal status with men. The title of the article is ‘Zamana Badal Gaya Hai.’It has been twenty years of their marriage. But the Husband, KL, believes in discipline. Their children come home late, and Anju comes home late. She questions her mom that being a journalist can be critical and not allow freedom to her child. Veera and KL fight on allowing his daughter to come home at twelve in the night and allow wearing short dresses. KL blames his wife for writing these types of articles, which messed with his head and he allowed Anju for the dance. Veera sees her daughter dancing with a boy, and KL picks up a broom to throw out the boy from their house. KL’s boss, Nayak, gives him advice to punish his children by not giving them food, and he tells him to be firm.

Anju calls her friends to come dance with her. KL insults her daughter’s friends and prohibits his wife from talking with her daughter as she would not eat food. Anju plans to run from the balcony’s window. Veera calls KL to tell him Anju is planning to commit suicide, as,when they look from the keyhole, it looked that she is using sarees to hang. They allow her to go the dance as they are afraid she will take her own life. But Anju refuses to go to the dance, seeing her parents cry. The family has movie nights. Bobby is the youngest and is always playing cricket. Mathur family is an English speaking family. But Veera fails to make good food for her husband, which angers KL so much that they have a huge fight that ends up in both of them threatening to divorce one another. They criticize each-others parents. KL says that she doesn’t know how to cook and he should not have married her.Veera tells her husband that she would not do anything for the family from now on, as she is not their servant. Veera goes to find a job for herself.
