Started with - "Ta Na Na Tana Nana Naaa....", probably one of the finest Indian Tv series ever to be made, Malgudi Days was a 36 Episodes TV Serial aired on Doordarshan DD National (DD1) in 1986.
Written by Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Narayanaswami short for R. K. Narayan. The series is based on the novel and other works by the legendary writer R.K. Narayan. It was directed by Kannada actor and director, Shankar Nag, the whole score was composed by Carnatic musician L. Vaidyanathan. T.S. Narasimhan produced the series in the year 1986 with Anant Nag as the lead actor.
The series was first time telecast in Hindi on Doordarshan (Thirty-nine Episodes) and subsequently again re-telecast on Doordarshan and later on Sony Entertainment Television. It was Telecast in Telugu on Maa Television.
The stories are taken from from the books: A Horse and Two Goats, MalgudiDays,Swami and Friends and The Vendor of Sweets. Among them Swami and Friends was very popular. However The vendor of sweets was about the story of a Sweet vendor named Jagan and his business. A Horse and Two Goats was the story of a very poor man named Muni who lives in Malgudy.
