Stree Shakti is an Indian television series, which is focused on the social cause of empowering women. Mona Khot has always been passionate about touching women’s lives through movies and films. She is a famous documentary filmmaker, and one of the co-founders of the production company Black Swan Entertainment. Through this serial, she attempted to showcase the struggles of various women who had no support whatsoever to rebuild their lives after some trauma. A lot of stories were fetched from local newspapers, journals, and magazines.
Even some of the NGOs helped by contributing certain victims they were helping in the cases of domestic violence. The biggest challenge was to convince the rural women to come in front of the cameras to share their stories. Another hindrance was caused by the language of these victims. However, Khot along with her team overcame these problems by showcasing these women for a small duration on the television, hence allowing each of them to tell their tales in the way they themselves saw fit. Mona Khot chose DD simply because the private channels are more metro-centric, and she wanted the stories to reach the tier two and tier three towns. She explained that crimes are very rampant in these parts of the country and that we needed to create an impact in these places so that some changes can come into effect. Issues like domestic abuse, conditions of the widows, old age, and much more were the subjects of this serial over which a keen focus was applied.
The show wanted to create a deeper impact, and for the sake of that various celebrities were also called on the show, like Leslie Lewis, Sonakshi Sinha, Sushant Singh, and much more. Piyush Mishra, the actor, on the show, dedicated a poem towards the victim of sexual abuse on the set.
The cases that were featured in the show included Lakshmi, who survived an acid attack, and Zarina, who was a victim at the mere age of nine of human trafficking. The shooting of these two cases happened both in the studio, as well as the town in which these two incidents took place. The series is a 26 episode long array of disheartening social issues that are occurring in our country, especially on women. The first half of the show is hosted by Samiksha Bhatnagar, and the later half is anchored by DivyaDutta, a famous Bollywood actress.
