Dada Dadi Ki Kahaniyan was a beautiful TV series for the children, telecasted by Doordarshan in 1986. There was a total of 13 episodes in the series. Mr Modi Sagar directed the whole series under “Amar moves” banner. The legend, Mr Ashok Kumar portrayed the role of Dadaji. The show had the depiction of Indian soil; just like in an Indian family the grandparents tell stories to their grandchildren, similarly in the show Dadaji and, Dadiji used to tell stories to children. The format of the show was in accordance to the relationship grandparents have with their grandchildren in the Indian joint family.
Dada Dadi Ki Kahaniyan was adapted from the book that goes by the same name, Dada Dadi Ki Kahaniyan book.
The grandparents tell beautiful, real, imaginary and valuable stories to their grandchildren during the bedtime and teach them some moral values. The children also wait with excitement for these stories by their grandparents. The series of 13 episodes included many stories narrated by one generation to other. The first story was the tale of Madhubala and Madan Kumar. The other story was the tale of Sukhu and Dukhu, next was the story of Gobu Chandra and Hobu Chandra. Dada and Dadi also narrated the tale of Sheet Vasan. They recited to the children about the story of an Astrologer as well. Next, was the description of the tale of Arun, Barun and Kiranmala. The another story that the grandparents told was the tale of the lazy Brahman and his wife. In the following episodes, grandparents kept on narrating these beautiful as well as dramatic stories to the grandchildren and its audience.
The another story was the tale of Karanmala and Kanchanmala. Then, they told the wonderful story of the Shepherd and the ghost. They also narrated to them the tale of three foolish sons of a Saudagar. There was one adventurous story as the adventures of RajKumar. The last story that the grandparents narrated to the children was the tale of the king and the Kotwal. The show did not only include story-telling, but it was also more than that. There was picturization of every story; the children could go and see what really happened, how it happened, how the characters looked like, what they did, how the story went from start to end and, finally the most important lesson every story taught to children. For children, it was a treat to watch such beautiful episodes and their favourite stories with such picturization. The producers telecasted the show in U.K, Mauritius and Singapore as well. The serial also won the award for the Best Children Serial.
