Tamas - A 1987-88 Hindi Television Serial based on Hindi Novel of the same name written by Bhisham Sahni and aired on Doordarshan DD National (DD1). Tamas serial depicts the consequences of Partition in Pakistan(1947) on different communities like Sikhs and Hindu Families. Initially, it came on Doordarshan as a small series. Main Cast of this Mini series consists of The Legend “Om Puri” as Nathu, Deepa Sahi as Karmo, Amrish Puri as Sardar Teja Singh, A.K. Hangal as Bakshi Ji, Manohar Singh, etc.
The plot of this series shows how Violence and unrest in Pakistan while Partition leads to misleading different communities and result in disaster. Govind Nihalani, the Writer and Director of the series, thought of filming it in Punjab. But, due to terrorist attacks, he decided to shoot it in Mumbai. Watching this series will great learning and lesson for this generation.
