“Daane Anaar Ke” is a sitcom genre, which was broadcasted by DD National (commonly known as Doordarshan Channel). This mini Hindi TV series was written by Uma Vachaspati, whereas the screenplay was written by Sharad Joshi.
The theme song was written by famous Indian poet, lyricist and film director Sampooran Singh Kalra, who is popularly known by his pen name ‘Gulzar’, whereas the music was given by Vishal. ‘Daane Anaar Ke’ is a 90’s TV show featuring a middle-class family consisting of four members: Musaddilal (husband), Rupbala (wife), Munna (son) and Guddi (daughter). Musaddilal was a poet and he used to earn handsome amount of money. Thus, he often used to borrow money from his neighbors and friends. One fine day, Musaddilal buys a lottery ticket of 1.5 lakhs, thinking that he’ll win and the poverty would come to an end. As he was very excited, he showed this ticket to his wife. Whereas his wife snapped him by saying that even her maternal uncle bought similar ticket, but it is a waste of time and money as he didn’t win.
Meanwhile on the same night, he and his wife started discussing what would they do if they win this lottery. They decided to pay the remaining debt, buying clothes for their family, jewelry for his wife, keeping servants for helping them in day to day chores, distribute sweets to their neighbors and relatives, and finally buying few lavish food ingredients like ghee, sugar, spices, vegetables, etc. A few days later, a postman delivers a letter addressed to Rupbala, and after opening it, they come to know they have won the lottery. This news eventually spreads everywhere and the standards of Musaddilal and his family changes within a blink of the eye. Relatives and neighbors change their perspective about them. Later in this show, the family is interviewed to evaluate their reaction to winning a lottery and later how they cope up with this change as things start changing in their day to day life.
Neena Gupta as Rupbala. Neena Gupta is an Indian flim and TV actress. She earned a National Award for the Best Supporting Actress to her credit for the movie “Woh Chokri”. This Delhi born actress got recognised after she started working with ‘G. Aravindan’ and Shyam Benegal. She has worked in many TV series and films, and she even hosted Indian quiz show. Her last active year was 2011 when “Dil Se Diya Vachan” (TV series) came to an end.
Ajit Vachani: Late Ajit Vachani was an Indian TV and film actor. He is known for his work in Mr. India (1987), “Maine Pyar Kiya” (1989), and "Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa" (1993). Besides Hindi movies, he acted in 3 Sindhi movies as well. He established himself as a very good character artist, and his last series “Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka” ran for 1000 episodes in Gujarati, Hindi and Marathi. He died on 23rd August 2003 after a prolonged illness.
