Mrityunjay was a TV series that aired on the Doordarshan channel DD National. It was a Hindi language TV serial. The show was based on a Marathi novel with the same name by renowed Marathi novelist Shivaji Sawant.
The TV show was directed by Dr. Chandra Prakash Dwivedi by Jamshaid Ashraf. Mrityunjay is a very Unusual, unconventional and unique take on the great Hindu epic “Mahabharata”. It usually revolves around the story the great tragic hero of Mahabharata Karna and the great villain Duryodhan and tells the story of Mahabharata from the point of view Karna (played by actor Rajendranath Zutshi) and Duryodhan (played by actor Shrivallabh Vyas). This show was indeed considered as a history lesson on DD National channel. The show was broadcasted in the year 1996 and was backed by some commendable performances by many strong actors.
The cast of the serial are as follows 1. Raj Zutshi as Karna 2. Shri Vallabh Vyas as Duryodhan 3. Jairoop Jeevan as Dronacharya 4. Narendra Jha as Arjun 5. Shariq Ashraf as Dushashana 6. Neena Gupta, etc. The TV Series “Mrityunjay” gained quite popularity among the viewers and also won accolades and awards in at the 3rd Videocon screen awards for the category of Best Director, Best Art Direction and best serial. Though the serial was quite popular, it was abruptly went off air for unknown reasons.
