Bharat Ki Shaan: Rum-Jhum TV Show - Doordarshan DD National (DD1)

Bharat Ki Shaan: Rum-Jhum is an innovative dance reality show in which the classical Indian dance forms compete with the western dance forms. The Grand Finale was telecasted on DD National on 14th October 2013. It is not just a competition but representation of two dance forms. The concept and pioneer of reality shows were given by Shri Gajendra Singh, the man behind hit TV shows like ‘Antakshari’ and ‘Voice of India’, and later this unique dance show was nurtured by the living legend of Indian Classical dancer D. Sonal ManSingh, who will be seen in this show as “guru Shrestha”, or the supreme judge.

Honored with Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, besides being a world known Odissi and Bharatnatyam dancer, she is also a great poet and singer. She even performed a mesmerizing dance drama on the final day. “It is a strategy for me to bridge the schism between the popular and pure arts. I hope the show doesn’t only let the country discover new talents but also discover dance in its diversity, richness and beauty,” said Mansingh. Rum Jhum is an extension of Dr.Mansingh’s vision. After 6 months of vigorous efforts, the participants have finally reached the finale.

The five participants are- in solo- Divyashri and Archin, in duet-Kadan, Rayna and Gaurav, Manohar and in the group- The Rakshak Group. All these participants have been able to make it here to the finale, with the help of their team gurus in Indian Team Guru- Sandip Mahavir, who is a young Kathak dancer and choreographer and in the Non-Indian Team Guru –Sandip Soparkar, who is a dancer and choreographer of Latin and Ballroom dance form, says, “There is no other platform which gives prominence to non-Indian dance in particular. I am extremely thrilled to be a part of this show. I am glad that Mr.Gajendra Singh has offered me this opportunity. My best wishes are there with all the contestants and our entire team. I am sure we will make a great show.”

On the day of Finale, we see some breathtaking and astounding performances, given by the participants one after another, but as we all know when there is a competition there is only one winner in it and so here who will be the winner is worth something to watch it for. This fascinating blend of classical, regional folk and western music combined with Bollywood songs has always kept the entertainment quotient high. .
