Naya Nukkad TV Serial is a famous Hindi TV serial aired on Doordarshan DD Metro in early 1993-94. It was official Sequal of Nukkad TV Serial - Doordarshan DD National (DD1). It deals with the poor, socially, economically backward people trying to lead their life in metropolitan cities. It shows how these people are harassed by the rich, socio-economically well people. It tries to expose the harsh reality of the city life. Nukkad is the first season and Naya Nukkad, the second. The second season was not much popular. The popularity of the first season made the team come up with another season. The second season had a lot of new members joining the old team.
The director's team includes Aziz Mirza, Saeed Akhtar Mirza, Kundan Shah, Sudhir Mishra, Manjul Sinha, Sanjay Chel, and others. Prabodh Joshi is the writer of this drama. The cast included many of them namely, Dilip Dhawan (guru), Avtar Gill (Khaderbhai), Pavan Malhotra (Hari), Sameer Khakhar (Khopdi), Haidar Ali (raja), Javed Khan (Karim), Sangeetha Nair (Radha), Rama Vij (teacher Ji), Ajay Wadhavkar (Ganpat), Suresh Chatwal (Mukhiya Shayar), Suresh Bhagwat (Ghanshu Bhikari), Kundu Mochi (cobbler), Dagdu Jamadar (sweeper), Gupta Seth (owner of grocery shop), Maniklal Seth (owner of jewellery shop), Karan, Usha, Sheetal (works for Mrs. Maniklal), advocate Khare, and others. Naya Nukkad tries to bring out the time element and the changes in the society, but it fails.
Naya Nukkad is not clear about which Nukkad the characters are in as the last season ended with the division of Nukkad by the government. The show starts with the introduction of the new characters. Then the show runs with making of new couples in the Nukkad turning out romantic scenes. In between Ullas Bhai appears in the serial with the social club. Maniklal’s relative Apne Lal comes with the negative role. In some of the episodes, Ganpat’s honesty is tested, raja’s humanity is showed.
The emergence of the social club will lead few of them to divert from their usual routine. In between several episodes are shown as a poetic confession. In the last 22 episodes, the Nukkad people fight against builders. Naya Nukkad is a socio-crime drama. Though its popularity has not matched the first season, it is clearly evident that the team experimented a lot to bring in new ideas and projections
