Kul Ki Jyoti Kanya is another addition to the list of television shows that are based on female foeticide. The issue has been raised in many other serials. However, after releases of female-centered fictional shows like Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyan and Betiyan Apni Yaa Paraya Dhan, the most viewed channel of the country Doordarshan is back with another such show raising its voice against female foeticide. The show is inspired by the issue raised by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan on his show "Satyamev Jayate" which was telecasted on Doordarshan before the initial release of Kul Ki Jyoti Kanya.
The show has got a typical afternoon slot for its broadcast and has rolled out and rocked the charts. The plot of the show is knit around a father who favors having a son and considers daughters as a burden on the back which have to be carried for all the life. His wife had already given birth to two daughters. This had frustrated him a lot, and he strongly disapproves them. His wife gets pregnant again and this time, he threatens her to kick her out of the house she was living in for so many years if she fails to deliver a son.
However, he does not wait longer to do the same and kicks her out of the house. He marries another woman who gives birth to two children of the male gender. He spends his life happily but later realizes the real gems he had, and they were his daughters.
All the troubles he is currently facing in his life were because of his sons. He regrets his decision of throwing the mother of his daughters out of the house. His sons disapprove him in every decision and leaves him on his own in his old age. It was his daughters who start taking care of him and keeping him well. He feels very blessed for having them and prays for their happiness. The story of the show revolves around this to form an entertaining package for the audience.
The serial is directed by Alok Nath Singh who is famous for his family dramas and the masala mixed shows. He has a great experience in directing such shows and has been associated with Doordarshan for a very long time and hence knows the nerves of the audiences. He admits it and has full belief in this new serial of his that it is going to entertain the women audiences who comprise the audience section more than males. However, men can also enjoy the serial, if they have a relative interest in watching family dramas.
