Surabhi TV Show - Doordarshan DD National (DD1)

Surabhi (Later Amul Surabhi) was a famous show that was telecasted on Doordarshan DD National, was shown from the year 1993 till 2001. This is a cultural magazine television show which was transferred to Star Plus later. This particular show was anchored by Renuka Shahane along with Siddharth Kak. It was Cinema Vision India that produced this show. The main theme of the television show was ‘Indian culture’.


It is Dr. L. Subramaniam, the violinist who composed the title track of this television show. It was ‘Amul’, the diary company which sponsored this show for quite a long time. The weekly quiz that was open for the audience made this show furthermore popular.

This show has its distinction for its longest running. And, it took its place in the ‘Limca Book of Records’ for having got the largest audience ever. Subsequently, Kak launched the ‘Surabhi Foundation’. This is a project which aims at preserving cultural artefacts. He gained the assistance from ‘Ford Foundation’. The direction part of this series was taken by ‘Abhilash Bhattacharya’. This show ran a total of nine seasons.
