Krantijyoti SavitriBai Phule is DD National's drama series about one of India’ lesser-known social reformers and poets, Savitri Bai Phule. The show starts with reporter kavya Banerjee covering a horrific incident of a young girl being burnt alive in a village in Maharashtra. While reporting the incident, she meets Bhaskar Manjule, a social reformer and asks him for his viewpoint on this matter.
Manjule tells kavya about Savitribai but is then shocked when he came to know that kavya does not know about her. Kavya then sets out to find out more about SavitriBai Phule. She goes to Kudaal village near Satara to meet a retired professor named Namdev Patil who upon seeing kavya’ honesty and good-hearted nature recounts the story of Savitri bai Phule.
Savitribai held many reforms to abolish discrimination based on caste and gender. She is the ‘mother of the nation, ' and Kavya is astonished to find out that even after her playing vital roles in India’ struggle for freedom and reform under British rule she is still not known by many, and hence, the show narrates the life of Savitribai.
