Neem Ka Ped TV Serial - Doordarshan DD National (DD1)

 Neem Ka Ped’ was a Hindi TV drama series that was aired on Doordarshan in 1991. The series is written by famous Bollywood writer Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza. The cast included famous actors like Pankaj Kapoor. In this serial, Pankaj Kapoor had played the role ‘Budhai Ram’ who was a bonded labor. He was living along with a landlord who was a Muslim. Nawman Malik produced the serial. It was directed by Gurbir Singh Grewal who also had done the editing part in the serial.

Famous Urdu poet Nida Fazli had penned the title song ‘Muh Ki Baat Sunah Har koi’ which was sung by veteran Ghazal singer Jagjit Singh. Pankaj Kapoor portrayed the role of bonded labor marvelously. He narrated the role of an obedient bonded servant for the landlord and who also has a dream to make his son get educated. The story is based on a story before and after days of our Indian Independence. However, Pankaj Kapoor goes to jail for the murder of upcoming Congress politician.

His cousin manipulates the whole murder plot. This happened before independence. After Independence, his son becomes the Member of Parliament. But he grows up to a greedy and corrupted Member of Parliament. 


The television series is based on a short story written by Vilayet Jafri, who was a director of Lucknow Doordarshan. While Pankaj Kapoor played the role of a protagonist, other pivotal characters in the series were played by Arun Bali, Vijay Mishra, Vijay Vastava, V.N. Mishra, Surendra Sharma, and S. M. Zaheer, etc.
