Indra Dhanush TV Serial - Doordarshan DD National (DD1)

Indra Dhanush was aired in DD National channel, targeting the children exclusively. The serial was an Indian children's television serial, which was a mixture of Sci-Fiction and Fantasy. It was telecasted every Sundays and was produced and directed by Anand Mahendroo.


The story revolved around a group of kids, who assembled a computer. In that, the computer became the host to an alien prince from a planet in the Andromeda Galaxy on the run from his enemies. The rest was about the events, which took a lot of weird turns, like, one of the kids got kidnapped by one of the enemies of the prince. The Prince gave them a Time-Travel machine. With this machine they tried seeing their past and rescue their friend.


The cast included, Akshay Anand, 'Karan Johar',Vishal Singh, Rajendra Shinde, Jitendra Rajpal in the lead. It was aired from 1988 to 1989.The wonderful and highly applauded serial was produced and directed by Anand Mahendra. The serial was ahuge hit among the kids and it was a favourite among the children. It was voted as one of the best shows for children in those days, when telecasted. The show was very popular that it was dubbed in many other Indian languages.

The main success for the serial was the story,woven in a wonderful way ,that made the audience enjoy it the most. It also depicted the need of intelligence and knowledge and this serial,described the importance of technology too.

Indradhanush, which is a Hindi word for Rainbow, is an old Hindi serial for kids which involved some fantasy as well as science fiction elements. Aanand Mahendroo does the job of both, a director and a producer. Rajeev B. Agarwal and Liliput are the writers. Gyan Sahay is the cinematographer. Susil Salgia and Rajesh Bhatia are the editors. Sootradhar Video Pvt Ltd is the production company behind the serial. It traces the life of a group of school friends who are technologically sound. Appuswamy Krishnamurthy is the head of that group. His friends call him Appu.

He and his friends decide to make their very own computer. After much difficulty, they succeed. However, at night an alien, who is on the run from his enemies from the Andromeda Galaxy, comes and resides in that computer. When Appu starts to use the computer, the machine, in turn, starts to communicate with them. It leaves him shocked. On his birthday, he shows his other friend, Preeti, his invention. She laughs at it. Appu asks her to test it, and so she asks the machine a question about the Quit India Movement. The alien within the machine transports them to the era when the Quit India Movement happened.

Back at Appu's home, everybody is searching for him. On their hunt, Bala, Appu's elder sibling, and Srikant, his best friend, stumbles upon Appu's invention. There they discover, to their horror, that it can enable them to travel through time periods and also send them into the year 1942. Some gangsters also get involved into all of this. Not just this, but it also dealt with subjects like cloning and atoms. Will Bala and Shrikant come out of their predicament and rescue Appu and Preeti? Or will they get stuck into the invention forever? Also, what will happen to the alien residing inside it? Will his enemies get to him? The audience will get the responses to all the above questions as the plot will unravel.

It consisted of thirteen episodes. Jitendra Rajpal played Appu while Ameesha Jhaveri, prolific filmmaker Karan Johar, and Akshay Anand essay the roles of Preeti, Srikant and Bala respectively. Veteran actress and actor, Deepa Lagoo and Girish Karnad play the role of Appu's mother and father. Director and producer Ashutosh Gowariker and actress Urmila Matondkar did a cameo in it. DD National telecasted this serial in the year 1989. Back then, it was the first serial on small screen to deal with a subject that involved supernatural beings and science.
