Miss India TV Serial - Doordarshan DD National (DD1)

Miss India was a Popular TV serial that was aired on Doordarshan DD National (DD1) on 19 May 2004 at 9:30 PM. Produced by Rupesh Gohil, under the banner of Utopia Production Pvt Ltd, the show was directed by debutante Sabir Mustaffa. In this show, the female lead was played by popular Bhojpuri actress Pakhi Hegde. 

Miss India TV Serial was one of the major attempt from Doordarshan to change its image. This beauty pageant based TV Series was premiered as Miss India TV Serial on Doordarshan National (DD1) on 19 May 2004 at 9:30 PM, and later revamped as "Main Banungi Miss India TV Serial" after gaining quick TRP and as a part Of Doordarshan's Revamp, where many serials were renamed. Taking a cue from the 'infamous' Laxmi Pandit incident, the serial was aimed to take a peek into the world of glamour that has taken youngsters fancy. Pandit's Miss India-World title was revoked after it was found that she had embellished few facts on her bio-data.

Produced by Rupesh Gohil, under the banner of Uthopia Production, the show was directed by debutante Sabir Mustaffa. Bhojpuri Actress Pakhi hegde and Kajal became well known faces accross country. Touted to be based on the real life story of director Sabir Mustaffa, the show stars Pakhi Hegde as Suhani Sahay (Female Lead), Shilpa Shinde as Sanjana Guzral (Female Village), Prithvi Zutsi as Mr.. Guzral (Sanjana'a Father),  Dalip Tahil, Carran Kapur, Kajal Sharma, and Shweta Kawatra. Former Indian Batsman Vinod Kambali was also introduced to TV Industry with a role of Photographer in this serial.

While the screenplay was written by Brij Mohan, dialogues were written by Rajesh Saksham, cinematography by Mahendra Ryan and music was given by Sachin. The serial was a grim look at the glamour industry. It was an honest attempt to look at if the path to the beauty pageant is a bed of roses or is strewn with thorns.

Miss India TV Serial Cast:

Pakhi Hegde portrayed the character of Suhani Sahay, a Small town girl and another actress Shilpa Shinde played the role of Sanjana, a Business Tycon. Actor Prithvi Zutshi played Sanjana’s father.

Other veteran actors like Dalip Tahil, Shweta Kawatra, Kajal Sharma and Carran Kapur also had played the lead role in the series. Cricketer Vinod Kambli also made a debut in this set by playing the role of a photographer. The screenplay was by Brij Mohan; dialogues were written by Rajesh Saksham, cinematography by Mahendra Ryan and music composition was by Sachin.

Miss India TV Serial Synopsis, Plot, Storyline:

The tv show ‘Miss India’ is a story of a journey and struggle of a small town girl to become Miss India with the backgrounds of the fashion industry.

The series depicted the fashion industry in grey colour and proved that a model’s life is full of thorns and not a bed of roses. The show was an attempt to focus that beauty pageant life is not only a path of roses but even full of thorns. Suhani was a small town girl, who visited his brother Rajeev in Mumbai, His brother was married to sanjana, which didnt liked Suhani and Her Mother. Later a boy named Raja, helped suhani. Devyani chauhan cam in the picture in late, and she helped suhani to take revange from Sanjana Guzral.

Miss India TV Serial Reception:

This beauty pageant based TV series was premiered as ‘Miss India’ television serial and was also titled as ‘Main Banungi Miss India’ television series on Doordarshan. This tv show retained top position in DD1 for three years. It was on the telecast from June 2004 till its end the series fetched a lot of revenue for Doordarshan.

The production company RDG Production House became one of the key players in the television industry after the success of this serial. Later, it produced another series based on the life of air hostess too. In the year 2004, the series ran successfully on the top spot on Doordarshan DD national with highest TRP.
