Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi TV Serial - Doordarshan DD National (DD1)

 Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi is a popular sitcom, which was first aired in year 1984. It is one of the first sitcoms that became very successful in the Indian television after Doordarshan started to sponsor its programs. Yeh Jo Hoi Zindagi is written by the popular Hindi poet and writer, Sharad Joshi under the direction of Kundan Shah, Manjul Sinha and later on, Raman Kumar also directed the sitcom. Each episode took 20-25 minutes and it was broadcasted every Friday evenings. The sitcom became very popular that even the London video stores wait occasionally for the copy of this sitcom.



Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi revolves around the humorous events that happens in Ranjit Verma (portrayed by Shafi Inamdar) and his wife, Renu Verma’s (portrayed by Swaroop Sampat) lives; together with Renu’s younger brother, Raja (portrayed by Rakesh Bedi) who is single and unemployed. The three lives under the same roof. Their neighbors include the Bengali couple (portrayed by Sulabha Arya and Vijay Kashyap) and Ranjit’s boss (portrayed by Tiku Talsania) also joins the fun. Hindi and Marathi actor, Satish Shah plays different characters in each episode. 
The story started when Renu wanted to know if her husband remembers their anniversary and he pretend that he forgets. Renu meet her lawyer and asked him to send a fake divorce paper to Ranjit, but in the evening, the couple already patched things up. Later, their South Indian neighbors asked them to invite a prospective groom with his parents for their daughter, Kavita and let them in to their house since they don’t have a suitable space in their own house. At first, the groom and his parents have mistakenly thought that Renu is the bride to be.

The prospective groom and the bride are both in love with someone else and they slip away without meeting with each other. The parents bring their other son while the parents of the bride have planned to present their other daughter as well. Later, it will be revealed that the prospective groom and the bride were both in love with each other. They just split up after hearing that they will meet someone else for an arranged marriage. Both will go back to the house of Ranjit and Renu and sorted things up in the end.

Tons of laughter follows as the story continues. Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi completed a total of 67 episodes. Various events and different characters including Anjan Srivastav joined the sitcom later on. And because of its popularity, a repackaged happens on the second season when Ranjit and Renu have worked abroad. Raja lives with the aunt of Ranjit (portrayed by Farida Jalal) together with their servant (portrayed by Javed Khan). The story focused on Raja and Nivedita’s love affair and the second season run for long but it never reach the fame that the first season have gained. Ranjit and Renu came back on the final episode.
