Kya Dil Mein Hai is a poignant drama of love, sacrifice, and betrayal. The story broadcasted on 9X, with the first episode telecasted on December 1; 2007. Produced by the renowned Balaji Telefilms, this show garnered a lot of attention from the viewers for the lead hit pair. Kakoon (Abigail Jain) was brought up by her family with full of traditions and told that the groom would be chosen by her family, as according to them, love happened only after marriage. At that point, she meets the protagonist Anurag (Aamir Ali Malik), with whom she falls in love. She gets married to Anurag in the presence of her mother.
After they get married, Anurag leaves to Amritsar for business and promises Kakoon that he would return soon. But fate has a different say. Her mother dies before she could tell the truth to the family members. None of the relatives believe her and banish her from home. At the same time, she comes to know that she is not the biological kid of her parents. She also comes to know that she was given to her parents by some lady along with a piece of land. To search Anurag, she comes to Amritsar. She finds him too but realizes that he is Rahul and not Anurag. Anurag was Rahul Punj. Kakoon realizes that Rahul and his girlfriend Naina (Kratika Sengar), cheated her for the land she got from some lady who gave her away. Listening to this, dejected, Kakoon tries to commit suicide where she gets saved by Aman (Mridul Singhvi), who promises to help her and get justice. She manages to enter Rahul’s family.
Kakoon later finds that Aman and Rahul are blood brothers. Kakoon tries to win Rahul back from Naina and also succeeds in doing that. She also comes to know that Naina is her sister. As she doesn’t want to break her sister’s heart, she pushes Rahul away from her and tries to pair him up with Naina. She decides to marry Aman. Aman is in love with Kakoon but hides it from her. On the day of marriage of Kakoon & Aman and Naina & Rahul, Naina comes to know that Kakoon is her sister and now wants to unite her with Rahul. She takes the help of Aman, who murders her for the love he has for Kakoon and portrays that it was Rahul who killed Naina. Rahul gets arrested for the charges against him. Kakoon also believes that Rahul killed Naina.
Aman, who is a lawyer, tries to fool everyone by taking up the responsibility of fighting the case on behalf of his brother. Naina’s family appoint a lawyer, Naina Oberoi (Sanjeeda Sheikh) who would be standing against Aman. Naina Oberoi realizes that Rahul has not killed Naina and hence doesn’t fight the case. She also tells this to Kakoon. Thus, Rahul is released from jail. Kakoon comes to know that Aman has killed Naina.
But Aman threatens Kakoon that if she tells this to anyone, he would go to the court and submit the tape that shows Rahul threatening Naina that he is going to kill her. Every day he threatens Kakoon. On the other side, Naina Oberoi starts falling in love with Aman, and they decide to get married. Kakoon stays in her home on the day of their marriage and writes a letter to Aman stating that she is going to kill herself. Kakoon also finds the tape and destroys it. Aman sees her and in anger, rapes her. Next morning Kakoon writes another message stating that she is going to commit suicide. This letter reaches Rahul, and he goes in search of Kakoon. He saves her and on persistence Kakoon tells him the truth about Aman killing Naina.
Meanwhile, Aman tells everyone that Kakoon and Rahul have fled away. At that point, Rahul enters and tells the truth to all the family members that it was Aman who killed Naina, and the show ends. This show portrays the journey of a strong Indian woman who fights for her rights as she faces life’s harsh realities.
