Uppanyas TV Serial - Doordarshan DD National (DD1)

 Uppanyas is an old Hindi TV serial that aired on Doordarshan in the 80s. The word, “uppanyas”, means “novel” in English. The serial on Doordarshan was aptly named, since it was about a writer trying to find his zeal and start writing again. Dr. Shriram Lagoo plays the character of Mohan Vatsal, a writer who had left writing due to family troubles and emotional dilemmas. However, Mohan was actually a skilled writer, whose previous work was appreciated and recognized. After meeting a fan, named Yashodhara, who encourages him to write again, he starts working on a new novel, named Uppanyas. The character of Yashodhara was played by Suhasini Joshi. This serial was a class – apart from the serials prevailing in that time. It showed a non – romantic bond between a man and a woman. There were 36 episodes, each about 23 minutes long.
