Param Vir Chakra’ is a TV serial based on the life of Param Vir Chakra gallantry award winners. It is an award instituted by our Indian government who had sacrificed their lives for the sake of the nation. The serial was directed by notable Hindi film director Chetan Anand, who had a passion for directing several patriotic-based movies earlier.
His earlier films like ‘Hindustan Ki Kasam’ and ‘Haqeeqat’ were judged as best films of India. The serial was aired on Doordarshan in 1988. The first episode had featured actor Farooq Sheikh in the role Major Som Nath Sharma, who was the winner of gallantry award and had been killed in Kashmir valley in November 1947. The second episode was based on the life of Lance Naik Karam Singh whose character was portrayed by actor Kanwaljit Singh.
Similarly, the third episode was based on the life of another brave son of India; actor Sunil Lahiri played second Lieutenant Rama Raghoba Rane role. The fourth episode was based on the life of Naik Jadu Nath Singh whose life was sketched on the small screen by actor Puneet Issar. Even actor Gurdas Maan enacted the role of Subedar Joginder Singh, and actor Pankaj Dheer played the role of Major Shaitan Singh.
Other two veteran actors from Bollywood namely Naseeruddin Shah and Annu Kapor had portrayed the life of Company Quarter Master Havildar Abdul Hamid and Lance Naik Albert Ekka. There was a total of 17 episodes. Chetan Anand and Ketan Anand together had directed the serial. Vivek Anand was the camera man, and Jethu Mandal was editor of the serial.
