Kamrup Ki Kahani is a TV drama aired on DD National in the 90s. Kamrup Ki Kahani is based on the book penned by Indira Goswami, The Moth Eaten Howdah of the Tusker. Ruma Ghosh directed the serial. The story deals with the social issues in Kamrup in the mid of 20th century. The story is about Giribaala, a young widow from the Assamese Brahmin family, who lives in Palashbari in Kamrup. The story is set in the vision of Giribaala, who narrates her story and how she is stuck between liberalism and traditionalism. Giribaala’s character and her emotions are neatly portrayed. Nandita Das, Nipon Goswami, Chetana Das and Nathan Scott are in the cast. The award-winning actress, Nandita Das, left no stones unturned with her natural performance. She played the role of Giribaala, and Nipon Goswami portrayed Gosain.
After the success of the series, it was made as a feature film in Assamese in 1996. The movie was titled Adajya, and Santwana Bardoloi directed it. The book written by Indira Goswami received the Jnanpith Award from Bharatiya Jnanpith in 2000.
